Catherine Kawira Bariu is a Certified Secretary and Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over a decade of experience in corporate governance, legal advisory, regulatory compliance, and company secretarial practice. She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Corporate Governance from the University of Nairobi, a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B Hons) Degree from Kenyatta University. She is also a Certified Corporate Governance Auditor and Certified Legal Auditor.
Catherine has extensive experience in Kenya’s financial sector regulatory framework and has served as Company Secretary for listed and regulated companies, including Nairobi Securities Exchange PLC, SASINI PLC, Kingdom Bank Kenya, The Standard Group PLC, and SMEP Microfinance Bank PLC. She has provided end-to-end Board and Committee support, drafted governance policies, maintained statutory records, facilitated AGMs and EGMs, and advised on corporate governance and regulatory compliance. She also gained valuable experience in financial management, risk-based supervision, and regulatory inspections during her tenure at the Capital Markets Authority of Kenya.
Her expertise encompasses statutory compliance, company formation, corporate governance, share registration and transfers, legal and governance audits, compliance advisory, and liaison with regulators, auditors, shareholders, and other stakeholders. Catherine has also participated in international standards development through ISO technical work on cross-border transaction assurance and has actively contributed to governance trainings, legal audits, and compliance initiatives. She is committed to providing professional, reliable, and strategic leadership in company secretarial, corporate governance, legal, and regulatory matters.
